The underdog film ‘Talvar’ that released along with Akshay Kumar’s ‘Singh Is Bliing’ has managed to do a decent run at the box office this weekend. Being a low budget film with considerably less promotions, ‘Talvar’ has surprised everyone with its performance at the box office. The film that opened to a good start has collected Rs. 9 crores net approx (90 million). The film showed 20-25% growth on Sunday itself.
Despite facing competition from comedy flicks like ‘Singh Is Bliing’ and ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon’, the film had managed to collect Rs. 2.50 crore net approx (25 million) on its first day. On its second day it collected similar amount of Rs. 2.50 crore net approx, while on Sunday the collection rose to 3.50 crores net approx. The film also had a paid preview on Thursday, October 1, 2015. Which added to an amount of 50 lakhs to the total collection approximately, making it to a total of 9 crores.
With very minimal number of screening across the country, ‘Talvar’ has gained an impressive collection owing to the public holiday. The film should now keep the pace steady in order to get through the weekdays and weekend for a decent run. ‘Talvar’ faces competition with Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Singh Is Bliing’ that raked in an impressive collection of Rs. 45 crores net approx (450 million) after its first weekend. However ‘Talvar’ only has around 625 screens with just 2-3 times of screening across the country. Which is very less compared to the release scale of ‘Singh Is Bliing’.

Talvar has been directed by Meghna Gulzar starring Irrfan Khan and Konkana Sen in the lead roles. Konkona Sen and Neeraj Kabi have played the role of Aarushi’s parents Nupur and Rajesh Talwar while Irrfan is the investigating officer on the case. The impressive image of Irrfan Khan and the controversial nature of the film’s script can be two of reasons why the film managed to pull crowd in theaters. Given the fact that Aarushi murder case was a nationwide phenomena, the film’s word of mouth publicity played a crucial role.
