The whodunit film ‘Talvar’ loosely based on the Aarushi Talwar murder case has surprised everyone with its good first day collection. Despite facing competition from comedy flicks like ‘Singh Is Bling’ and ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon’, the film has managed to collect Rs. 2.50 crore net approx (25 million) on its first day. With very minimal number of screening across the country, ‘Talvar’ has gained an impressive collection owing to the public holiday.
The film also had a paid preview on Thursday, October 1, 2015. Which added to an amount of 50 lakhs to the collection approximately. Thus the total amount collected by ‘Talvar’ comes down to Rs. 3 crores net approx (30 million). The film will most likely experience a drop on the weekend due to less crowd pull, but any likely growth will prove to be a bonus. Monday collection will decide the film’s fate in the long run.

‘Talvar’ faces competition with Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Singh Is Bling’ that raked in an impressive collection of Rs. 18 crores net approx. However ‘Talvar’ only has around 625 screens with just 2-3 times of screening across the country. Which is very less compared to the release scale of ‘Singh Is Bling’. Thus considering the same, ‘Talvar’ has surely surprised us with its collection.
Talvar has been directed by Meghna Gulzar starring Irrfan Khan and Konkana Sen in the lead roles. Konkona Sen and Neeraj Kabi have played the role of Aarushi’s parents Nupur and Rajesh Talwar while Irrfan is the investigating officer on the case. The impressive image of Irrfan Khan and the controversial nature of the film’s script can be two of reasons why the film managed to pull crowd in theaters. Given the fact that Aarushi murder case was a nationwide phenomena, the film’s word of mouth publicity played a crucial role. We now wait to see the film’s first weekend collection.
