MUMBAI: Be it the Box Office or a leading GEC channel, Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chennai Express’ has the ‘Midas Touch’.
Yes its true. Zee TV, according to this week ratings is the number one channel, pushing Star TV to the second position and Colors to third. All they had to do is – shell out almost fifty crore for it.
If reports are to be believed, Zee TV bought the satellite rights of Shah Rukh Khan‘s ‘Chennai Express’ for a whopping fifty crore, aired it last week and their gross viewership in thousands (GVT) shot from 53,756 to 1,68,942 (as per TAM Media Research).
The channel’s overall GVTs went up to 5,05,442 from 4,09,304 the previous week. Star Plus is currently at 4,92,849 GVTs from 5,17,048 the previous week and Colors trails behind at 4,23,584.
After a lean phase, Zee TV has been on the roll and has managed to launch a couple of shows that hold promise.
Shows like ‘Jodha Akbar’, ‘Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se’ and ‘Dance India Dance 4’ are some of their recent launches that have garnered good response from their viewers.
Well its very evident that Zee TV’s climb to the top spot has been because of ‘Chennai Express’. Now the challenge clearly lies in sustaining this leadership position in the Hindi general entertainment genre.
