Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper, a biographical drama on an American militant caught in the Iraq War, starring Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller, has had the largest opening ever with a collection that crossed $100 million within four days from weekend, since its release on January 16, 2015.
January had never seen this kind of figures and expectations of such overwhelming collections are usually reserved for summers! With constant terrorist attacks all across the world, people are probably looking for a hope, which has been magnificently answered by American Sniper, which exhibits the horrors of war simultaneously with the humane conflicts faced by soldiers.
The film has already been nominated for six Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor.
The film has also brought its own sets of controversies. It has been criticized on grounds of violence portrayed as a result of the very theme of death and war! Many have opined that the film has glorified war.
A billboard on American Sniper was spray painted in red with the word “Murder” on January 19.
Whatever be the concern of the critics, the film produced for $59 million is marching ahead to be a hugely profitable venture for Warner Bros. and its financial partner Village Roadshow Pictures.
