MUMBAI: US theater accused of BO receipt fraud .Major movie studios including Miramax and Dreamworks have filed a legal case against Ajay Theatres (Tennessee) for under-reporting box office receipts amounting to several thousands of dollars.
The suit, filed in Los Angeles, includes details of theatre providing false serial numbers of the tickets sold and claims the fraud is being perpetrated since March 2003.
The studios are asking for actual damages caused and other expenses involved in bringing the suit. The case has been raised in Los Angeles and the studios’ contracts with the accused provide for the California law to govern any disputes raised, reports say.
