MUMBAI: Bimbom Barkah has been named General Manager of Universal Music Indonesia. The appointment was announced by Sandy Monteiro, Senior Vice-President of Universal Music Group International (ASEAN), to whom he will report.
Based in Jakarta, Barkah will be responsible for all aspects of the company’s daily operations. He will lead his team in developing future business strategies for domestic and international repertoire as well as strengthening local media and corporate alliances.
Bimbom joins Universal Music with more than 15 years’ experience in the music business, including various programming, marketing and promotion posts at Hard Rock FM, MTV South East Asia, BMG Indonesia and Warner Music Indonesia. In 2007, he became Managing Director of ImportMusic.com, specialising in digital content.
Monteiro said, “Bimbom is a dynamic music executive with a comprehensive background in so many aspects of the industry, which will serve us well in today’s ever-changing market. I’m confident he will lead Universal Music Indonesia into an exciting new era.”
Barkah takes over from Anthony Shih, who retired as Managing Director of Universal Music Indonesia in October 2007. During the transition period, Monteiro was the interim head, reporting to Max Hole, President of UMGI Asia Pacific.
