British reality TV star Jade Goody succumbs to cancer

MUMBAI: The 27 year old British reality TV star Jade Goody succumbed to cancer on Sunday at 3.55 am. Goody, who has two kids, died in her sleep at her home in Essex.

Goody shot to fame in 2002 after appearing in the UK reality show Celebrity Big Brother and was accused of racial discrimination against Indian movie actress Shilpa Shetty.

Last year, Goody also appreared on the Indian version of Big Brother called Bigg Boss as a participant. It on this reality show that her doctor broke the news to her that she was suffering from cervical cancer. Goody was then allowed to leave Bigg Boss and she returned to England for her treatment. She later later learned the cancer was terminal.

When she learnt that she had limited days left, Goody decided to die in the public gaze so as to earn maximum money in order to secure the future of her two sons. Goody married her fiance Jack Tweed a few weeks before her death.

Shilpa Shetty flew to London a few days back to say her last goodbye to Goody. However, Shetty could not meet Goody as her health had deteriorated. Shetty was quoted in media reports as saying, "I am deeply saddened by the news but in the hindsight, I am glad that she is out of pain and passed away peacefully in her sleep. Words cannot express how I feel but my heartfelt condolences to the family."
