Sony Pictures inks deal with MARV Films

MUMBAI: Sony Pictures has signed a three-year first-look deal with producer director Matthew Vaughn’s and Kris Thykier’s MARV Films as part of the studio’s International Motion Picture Production initiative.

Under the UK-based deal, Vaughn and Thykier will develop feature films to produce.

MARV Films, the UK based production company led by Matthew Vaughn and his partner Kris Thykier, was established by Vaughn in 2003 as the follow up to Ska Films, his collaboration with director Guy Ritchie. Having previously produced such films as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, and Mean Machine, Vaughn moved into the director’s chair at MARV with the acclaimed debut Layer Cake. The company is currently finalising the epic fairytale romance Stardust, directed, produced, and co-written by Vaughn and starring Robert DeNiro, Michelle Pfeiffer and Claire Danes, set for release on 10 August 2007.

SPE is the only major studio to maintain stand-alone, local language production units throughout Europe, Asia, and Latin America, and it has helped bring such hits as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Snatch, and Kung Fu Hustle, among others, to the global market.
