LOS ANGELES: Police have confirmed Whitney Houston was under water and unconscious when she was found by members of her staff.

Contactmusic.com reports that police have confirmed that attempts were made for 30 minutes to save the "Greatest Love of All" singer by a member of her staff Feb 11.

"She was under water and apparently unconscious. Houston was pulled from the tub by members of her staff, and hotel security was promptly notified," Beverly Hills Police spokesman Mark Rosen said.

Hotel security reached the venue but were "unable to revive her".

"At approximately 3.55 p.m., Whitney Houston, age 48, was pronounced dead at the scene," Rosen added.
