Mumbai: BIG 92.7 FM marked the first anniversary of its Rajkot Station recently. The Rajkot Station was the second to be launched in the Gujarat cluster and has grown in popularity over the last one year.
BIG FM, which boasts of setting up the largest radio network in the shortest possible time, already has presence in 44 cities across India. It began with its launch in September 2006 and in a short span of time, has ensured presence across the length and breadth of the country.
The celebrations involved a wholesome mix of entertainment and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The station marked its first anniversary with Ek School Ho Sapno Ka initiative wherein it helped in the adoption of 10 government school children by the most prestigious school in Rajkot – Pathak School.
The students were selected on the basis of their performance in an exam conducted by the station on class VII syllabus. Under this initiative, the 10 best performing students will now study at Pathak School from Class VIII till Class XII, free of cost. The school will also provide them with books, bags, uniforms and other essentials. BIG FM shall also ensure that the students receive appropriate training in English language as well as computers.
The station has also found sponsors for the higher studies of the three best performing students out of the lot. Under this arrangement, Kotecha Impex (a client of BIG FM) will select the top three students based on their Class XII results, and sponsor their further studies as well as provide them appropriate placement based on their qualifications.
Another CSR activity involved tying up with the Wild Life Trust Unit in promoting their work for saving Asiatic Lions from falling into the borewells by creating barricades around the wells. The station has started inviting people to donate for the cause with air promotions.
BIG 92.7 FM cluster head – Gujarat Hitesh Budhbhatti said, "The Station has not only provided a whole-some mix of entertainment to the local populace, but also acted as a forum to address various social concerns/issues faced by them. The station, which lives its brand-line Suno Sunao, Life Banao in everything that it does, has undertaken activities that have really impacted listeners’ lives positively. Hence, whether it was setting up of BIG Festival Kitchen under which about 50,000 people benefited by getting Diwali sweets and snacks at minimal costs or coming to the rescue of flood victims in and around Rajkot during the last monsoons by distributing food packets to over 10,000 families, the station has always been at the forefront."
"On a smaller scale, the station also celebrated what it called ‘Boni Day’ on Laabh Paacham where BIG RJs shopped for 11 utility items like utensils, clothes, grocery, soap, footwear, vegetables and fruits and gifted them to 11 poor families", he further added.
