Kapoors launch Bhansali’s Saawariya music

MUMBAI: SPE Films India and SLB Films in alliance with Sony BMG unveiled the music of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya. The event also witnessed Salman Khan and Rani Mukherji introducing the much anticipated actors Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, to guests and media.

Family and relatives of Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor showed up in full strength to cheer for the debutants. Fathers of these actors, Rishi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor released the music.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhansali said, “For Saawariya I needed two young newcomers and I got them in Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor. They are like my own children and the time spent with them gave me a fresh perspective to life and new way to look at movies. I feel alive once again.”

The movie not only marks the debut of Ranbir and Sonam, but also of the music director Monty Sharma. Sharma has previously scored background music for Black and Devdas. “I recognized the spark in Monty while working on Black and Devdas. He is an exhilarating blend of spirituality, youth and madness. He spent more than two years composing and perfecting the 10 songs of Saawariya.”

Speaking about the music Sharma said, “The songs of Saawariya are neither purely westerns nor classical Indian, but a fusion of both. It is the kind of music that will appeal to the masses and the classes.”

Lyricist Sameer’s career span has ranged across five hundred films. Saawariya is the first films in which Sameer and Bhansali have worked together. “Sanjay called me because the movie needed very simple and youthful lyrics. I feel honoured that he chose to work with me.”

With Saawariya, two new singers Shail and Parthiv have also been introduced. The music of Saawariya will be available in stores from 21 September onwards.
