Mumbai: Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy and Farhan Akhtar performed live on Monday night at a mall in Mumbai as everyone witnessed the launch of the music of their film Rock On.
Directed by Abhishek Kapoor and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Akhtar, Rock On also marks the debut of Akhtar and Prachi Desai as actors and singers. The film also stars Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Shahana Goswami and Luke Kenny. It is the first film to release under the six film co-production agreement between Excel Entertainment and Reliance Big Pictures.
In tandem with the storyline of the film, concerts will be held across various parts of the country beginning the first week of August wherein the music directors and the cast will perform live.
Kapoor said, "Our music directors Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy took to the script like fish to water and gave it a powerhouse soundtrack straight from the heart. Working with Javed Saab was a complete revelation. He has a unique way with words – measuring them for their texture and fragrance."
Commenting on making music for this film, Sidhwani said, "Rock On is a youth oriented film, so the music needed a distinct sound, keeping in mind contemporary appeal along with melodious tracks, which these music maestros have woven together effortlessly."
The album consists of nine tracks, of which Akhtar himself has sung five. To give the film and its characters authenticity, the actors underwent personalized training for their portrayal of the band members. Kohli trained with Lindsay D’Mello on drums, Rampal trained with Chandresh from the band ‘Dream out Loud’, Kenny worked with Loy and Akhtar trained with Shankar for vocals and Ehsaan for rhythm guitar.
Big Music head honcho Kulmeet Makkar says, "We are indeed proud to be associated with few of the most creative minds in the country like Akhtar, Sidhwani and music directors Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. If the success of Johnny Gaddar is a measure to go by, we are sure that the music of Rock On will be another impressive addition to our repertoire of great film music."
The film releases on 29 August.
