Sony BMG introduces debut Hindi pop album of Smita

Mumbai: With over two million albums sold, 200 concerts in eight countries, 75 playback songs and her ability to sing in six languages – Smita has established an unparalleled legacy for herself.

Smita’s potential as a singer was identified at a talent show in a Telugu television channel anchored by S.P. Balasubramaniam in 1997. Her career as a pop artist started in the year 2000 with the launch of her first album Hai Rabba. This album was followed by several blockbuster albums in Telugu and Tamil.

Over the last seven years Smita has sung over hundred playback songs in Telugu and has worked with leading music composers from the south. The song Evaraina chusuntara from the film Anukokunda oka roju composed by M.M. Kreem won her a Filmfare award as best playback singer in Telugu films for the year 2005.

Sony BMG now proudly showcases this versatile artist in her self-titled Hindi album SMITA, which is an amalgamation of divergent styles of music like dance, pop and soft romantic tracks. The album features nine tracks composed by the immensely talented and successful musical duo – Sajid Wajid who have scored the music of recent blockbuster Bollywood movies like Welcome, Partner, Tere Naam, Mujhse Shaadi Karoge and more.

The music of the album is a blend of racy dance numbers like the first video single Mahi Ve, Aaja Nachle & Ouch to the romantic ballads Zara Zara & Saawariya, followed by Dholna which showcases the Smita’s dexterity in regional songs.

The album also features three groovy remixes which will set the dance floor on fire. The album is brilliantly held together by Smita’s energetic vocals and striking personality. The lyrics of the Hindi album have been penned down by popular lyricists Jalees Sherwani & Shabbir Ahmed.

The video of the lead track Mahi Ve is an audio visual extravaganza directed and choreographed by the country’s leading choreographers Bosco-Caesar who have thrilled the audience world over with their stylish moves in films like Dus, Bluffmaster, Salaam-e-Ishq, Partner, Jab We Met and Race. The second video Aaja Nach Le is a visually striking video with an electrifying performance by Smita.
