62nd Filmfare Awards South: Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu Nominations

South-Filmfare-Cover-PicThe 62nd Filmfare Awards of South will take off on June 28, 2015 at the Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai. The ceremony will see some of the biggest names of South Indian film industry spread across all four different languages: Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. Over the years South Indian cinema has reached on to become a supreme contributor towards Indian cinema over all and the quality of films being produced by the industries are matching Bollywood shoulder-to-shoulder.
At this year’s 62nd Film Fare Awards South produced by Britannia, big names in the nominations include frequent stars like Mammootty, Ajith Kumar, Allu Arjun, Nagarjuna and Venkatesh. While current frontrunners like Dulquer Salman, Dhanush, Siddharth, Nivin Pauly and more have been added to the list for Best Actors in their respective languages. Best Actresses include names like Manju Warrier, Nazriya Nazim, Amala Paul, Catherine Tresa, Kajal Aggarwal, Shruti Haasan among others.
Some of the best films given by Southern cinema this year includes Drishya, Bangalore Days, How Old Are You?, Mammootty starrer critically acclaimed film Munnariyippu, Kaththi, Madras, Drushyam and Karthikeya among others. Hit Malayalam film Drishyam has influenced industries like Tamil, Telugu as well as Hindi to remake the film due to its amazing storyline. Interestingly two of the remakes have been nominated for Best Film category.
The awards recognized by the Filmfare include Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Playback Singer – Male, Best Playback Singer – Female, Best Music Director and Best Lyricist. Special Awards include Lifetime Achievement Award, Best Male Debut, Best Female Debut, Best Comedian, Best Villain and so on.
Filmfare Awards South was introduced in the year 1954 covering the Tamil and Telugu industries. Malayalam films were included in the year 1967 while Kannada films joined the race in 1970. As Filmfare Awards are usually considered as the Indian version of the Academy Awards, this year’s Award show will also be quite a grand gala. With public votings taking place on a rigorous rate, we can expect some great results at this year’s polling.
