[tps_header]The Gutthi news has generated too many speculations, too many rumors, and too many villains. Finally, we are lifting up the curtain and here is the real truth behind the entire Kapil Sharma VS Sunil Grover, aka, Gutthi drama…
One thing is certain by now, that Gutthi may, or may not return on Comedy Nights with Kapil, but Sunil Grover will never return to the show. The reason is very clear: Sunil gave a lot to the show, and when it was time for him to ask for his pound of flesh, he was given a raw deal. Sunil did try to have a chat with the channel for a price hike, but initially they refused. But, when things went out of hand, and when it was sure that Sunil meant business, they tried to negotiate the terms with him. By now the damage was already done, and Sunil decided to quit the show for good.
Though he may deny that he had difference of opinions with Kapil Sharma, the fact remains that things are still not cordial between the two. As producer of the show, Kapil refused to pay the money Sunil asked for.
Also, there is a lot of speculation around who created the character Gutthi. As we reported earlier, the writer of the show Raaj Shaandilyaa, who happens to be the writer of Comedy Circus, created Gutthi. The improvisations were done by Sunil Grover himself, who observed certain mannerisms of girls he met in his college days, and added them in the character. Gutthi first appeared on Comedy Circus, which airs on Sony Entertainment Television.
“Gutthi has come from the experiences I had in my college. I used to study in Guru Nanak College, and there we had only seven girls out of some four thousand odd boys. The girls in small towns mostly behave in the same manner, the way I used to do on the show,” said a very vehement Sunil.
Sunil is very sad and upset with what has happened so far, and maintains that he wanted to leave the show with dignity. Sunil did not withdraw after his contract ended. He continued doing seven episodes post that. Sunil feels that Comedy Nights with Kapil gave him the biggest platform to showcase his acting potential.
Post his final exit, Sunil has been getting a lot of offers from many TV channels. Businessofcinema.com earlier also broke the news of him doing a show on Star Plus.
There is also much speculation that Sunil may play Gutthi elsewhere. To that Sunil answers, “Salim-Javed gave Amitabh Bachchan the name Vijay. I gave myself the name Gutthi. If Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan could play Vijay and Rahul in so many movies, why can’t I play Gutthi again? The channel has issued a public notice that underlines the fact that I cannot adapt Gutthi’s character in a new show. That is equivalent to compelling me to stop working. But I won’t stop. I am here to act. I might never have played Gutthi again had things been sorted our amicably.”
From all that Sunil has told us, it is very clear that he is genuinely very hurt and upset with the stand taken by both – the broadcasters as well as his one time friend Kapil Sharma.
All said and done, it’s extremely unfortunate that things ended like this. If sources are to be believed, then it is very sure that Sunil in his new avatar for Star Plus is going to win many hearts, based on his sheer talent. It is still not revealed by any of our sources whether the character is Gutthi, or on similar lines.
As we are filing this report, sources close to Sunil told us that the makers of Comedy Circus and Sunil are in talks with Star Plus. If all goes well, they would launch a show with Sunil soon.
The source adds, “A talent like Sunil definitely needs that space under the sun. He commands that.”[/tps_header]
