TRP Report: The Kapil Sharma Show Out Of League, Sony TV Slashed Down To Spot 9

Kapil Sharma Kiku Sharda Sunil Grover

According to BARC Reports, Week 20, Saturday 13th May 2017 to Friday 19th May 2017, The Kapil Sharma Show no longer makes it to the Top 5 highest TRP rated programs. Not only that, with the show’s crashing TRPs, Sony channel has slashed down to spot 9 in the Top 10 channels.

Ever since the never – ending dispute between Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover got foul, a lot of major characters of The Kapil Sharma Show including – Sunil Grover, Ali Asgar, Chandan Prabhakar have quit the show. Their exit has affected the TRPs of the show.

Kapil Sharma has been trying really hard to keep the show running by bringing in new characters but nothing is working out. People are not accepting Kapil Sharma’s show like they used to earlier. One of the reasons can be that they don’t find it funnier anymore without Sunil Grover and others. The key characters leaving the team was a major disappointment for the viewers.

The show, in the initial days, had started with almost 7 million impressions, which have now dropped down to just 3.9 million impressions. It is almost half of what they had earlier. The show used to be among the top three positions of the Indian Television. But due to the fallen TRPs, it has now overtaken by other shows like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, L’il Champs and Nach Baliye 8.

The mid-air fight between Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover has affected the show a lot and the viewership has been decreasing since then.

Currently, making it to the viewer’s favourite in the Top 5 are: Kumkum Bhagya(ZEE TV), Naagin 2 (Colors), Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai(Star Plus), Amul Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs (ZEE TV) and Jamai Raja (ZEE Anmol). With not even one program from Sony in the top 5, the channel has slashed down to spot 9.

Amidst all this, there are reports of Salman Khan’s Dus Ka Dum replacing the show. There were also reports that Sunil Grover has been offered a show of his own by the Sony TV. It was also reported that the channel had given an ultimatum to Kapil for improving the ratings of his show, failing which the contract worth Rs 107 crores will not be renewed.

Well, the truth will be revealed with time. Now that IPL season 10 has ended, it remains to see if The Kapil Sharma Show manages to retain the TRP. But for Kapil and Sony, the fallen TRPs are definitely something to worry about.
