Pankhuri Awasthy of the ‘Razia Sultan’ fame spoke about how she stood up for herself when sexually harassed by a person who touched her inappropriately. She will be seen playing a rape victim in upcoming TV show ‘Kya Kasoor Hai Amla Ka?’.
Speaking about her real-life encounters with such unpleasant predators, she recalled how she is much stronger than before. She said, “Earlier, I didn’t have courage to stand up against it (harassment). Now I do stand up. Recently, I was in Bengaluru with my friends and I was wearing a skirt. There was this guy who came and he had the courage to touch my thighs. I slapped him then and there itself.”
Pankhuri, who got her television break with ‘Yeh Hai Aashiqui’, says she doesn’t think cities are safe for woman. They are always skeptical of going out by themselves in the night. She also recalled of times when as a student in Delhi, she used to travel by metro and had very many unpleasant experiences. She now feels happy and proud to stand up against such people.
Before this she was seen in Suryaputra and Razia Sultan both of which were period drama. Unlike her first two stints, she will be playing a simple girl.
‘Kya Kasoor Hai Amla Ka?’ is an Indian adaptation of popular Turkish drama ‘Fatmagul’, which deals with complex emotions and tackles the sensitive subject of violation of the innocence of a woman.
