MUMBAI: Universal Pictures’ Bruno stood number one at the US and Canada box office in its opening weekend.
The movie, which is directed by Sacha Baron Cohen, had box office collections of $30.4 million.
On the other hand, 20th Century Fox’s animation film Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaur was at second place with $28.5 million box office collections. Transformers stood third with $24.2 million.
Bruno is the second Universal film to open in first place this year after Fast & Furious, providing a boost for Universal Pictures. The studio ranked last among the six major competitors in 2009 ticket sales with $604.3 million as of 9 July, according to Box Office Mojo.
