MUMBAI: Bhavna Talwar’s directorial debut film, Dharm, will be showcased at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.
Dharm stars Pankaj Kapur and Supriya Pathak in the lead roles. Sources say that it is the first time that an Indian woman director’s debut film will be showcased at Cannes. The film will be the closing film of the Indian section at the Cannes International Film Festival 2007.
Dharm is a riveting art film about a Hindu pandit (priest), (played by Pankaj Kapur) and his wife (Supriya Pathak). The pandit follows his rituals daily but is shaken when his family adopts a baby boy, who has been abandoned by his mother. The film is set in Benaras and is a blend of an Indian story and Western technique. The movie is slated for a June 2007 release all over.
