MUMBAI: One of Bollywood’s most sought after film-maker – Karan Johar turned forty yesterday, and the who’s who of the Indian Film Industry came to wish the birthday boy, at a ‘designer’ extravaganza organized by good friend Manish Malhotra at a suburban five star. True to Manish’s design sense, the party area was opulent and luxurious with velvet diamond studded curtains, an open bar counter and shining red candles at every table.

At the black and red themed party, Johar arrived wearing a sharp tuxedo, and waited for his mother to step onto the red carpet. Out of the many surprises during the night, the party saw attendance from Shah Rukh Khan with wife Gauri. The last time the couple were spotted reaching an event together was last year.
Anil Ambani with wife Tina were the early birds, followed by Karan Malhotra, Boman Irani and family and Sooraj Barjatya, with wife. Kajol and Tanisha came in together. Pakistani Singer and actor Ali Zafar deviated from the black and red dress code and chose a white suit. So did Imran Khan, who walked in with wife Avantika a little later.
Juhi Chawla, Arjun Kapoor, Simi Garewal, Yash Chopra with wife, Anil Kapoor, Ritesh Sidhwani, Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, Kangna Ranaut, Riteish-Genelia and Shankar Ehsaan Loy came close to midnight.
Bipasha Basu walked in wearing a sensational backless black dress. Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Sharma followed next. Sanjay Dutt came with Manyata. But deviated from dress code by wearing a pathani suit. When questioned why – the actor joked "I don’t own a tie, wie".
Hrithik Roshan with Sussane, Preity Zinta, Vidya Balan and beau Siddharth Roy Kapoor also made their appearences.
