MUMBAI: The legend Kamal Haasan celebrates his 59th birthday today. An actor, writer, producer, director, lyricist, choreographer and last but not the least – playback singer. This man is multitalented.
Haasan’s father was literate in Sanskrit and he is the youngest of four children; his siblings are Charuhasan, Chandrahasan and Nalini (Raghu). His two older brothers followed their father’s example, and studied law.
Kamal Haasan started his career as a child artiste in ‘Kalathur Kannamma’ and won the President’s Gold Medal for his excellent performance. From then on, awards started coming the legend’s way for every character that he aced with perfection.
Some of his notable films in Bollywood are – ‘Sadma’, ‘Sagar’, ‘Chachi 420’ and ‘Hey! Ram’ just to name a few.
Kamal’s latest directorial venture ‘Vishwaroopam’ and its sequel is a perfect example of his perseverance, which has made an impact worldwide.
He has successfully completed fifty years in Indian cinema and has won four National Awards, a Padma Shri and also holds a Guinness World Record for playing ten roles in ‘Dasavathaaram’.
On the personal front Kamal Haasan has had two failed marriages, his first wife was Vani Ganpathy and second Sarita Thakur. He has two daughters from Sarika – Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan. Both were born before he got married to Sarika. Currently he is living-in with actress Gouthami.
