Armenian filmmaker Sarik Andreasyan, who crossed over to Hollywood with the Adrien Brody-starrer American Heist in 2014, is now ready for the release of his next, the Russian film Guardians -The Superheroes that will release simultaneously in 50 countries.
And although he is aware of Indian actresses like Aishwarya Rai and Priyanka Chopra, he is a big fan of Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty and would love to collaborate with him. From the younger generation, Indo-Brit actor Dev Patel, who recently won a BAFTA for Garth Davis’s Lion, and is up for a Supporting Actor Oscar, figures high up on Sarik’s wish-list. “I watched a lot of Mithun Chakraborty films. His persona, his acting and his unexpected popularity in Soviet Union have always intrigued me,“ Sarik said recently, reminiscing about the time Mithun’s chartbuster, “Jimmy Jimmy“, from Disco Dancer, hit high notes in Russia.

The filmmaker, who’s also watched another nationwide hit in his country, the Raj Kapoor and Nargis-starrer Awaara, several times, added, “I am open to new opportunities. Making a film in India or about India would’ve been fantastic. It’s a unique and eloquent gem on the world’s map that inspires people every day.“ Interestingly, owing to his popularity in the former Soviet Union, Mithun went on to feature with Irina Kushnareva in Shikari (1991), which was shot in Russia and co-directed by Umesh Mehra and Latif Faizyev.
