MUMBAI: The good news is that David Dhawan who has wrapped up the entire shooting of his new-age Ali Zafar starrer ‘Chashme Baddoor’ is all set to screen the film for the core team of the original film from 1981.
While one of the principal male leads Ravi Baswani is no more, the others in the core team Farouq Sheikh, Deepti Naval, Rakesh Bedi and director Sai Paranjpye would be invited for a special screening of David’s film.
Sai it must be noted, is not happy about the remake and had, in fact, refused to comment on it when I had contacted her. It would therefore require Herculean persuasive powers to get her to see what David Dhawan has done with her creative vision.
Says David emotionally, “The cinematographer of the original Chashme Buddoor Virendra Saini is now at the Film & Television Institute Of India( FTII). He has invited me next month to lecture students on filmmaking. Ravi Baswani was my classmate at the Film FTII. In his death I lost a dear friend. I’d have loved to have him see my Chashme Baddoor. I’ve dedicated my film to Ravi. Luckily Farouq, Deepti and Rakesh are around and we’ll certainly have a screening for them.”
