Aanand L Rai’s Tumbbad starring Sohum Shah has piqued the interests of the audience with the spectacular teaser and trailer. The film which is set in the 1930s and 40s recreated the city of Pune in the pre-independence era.
Since a major part of the film is set in Pune of Maharashtra, the makers of the film recreated parts of the city giving a major nostalgia to the audience.
As Tumbbad is set in the pre-independence era, a lot of pre-production time and research was invested in recreating the exact set up. In order to give the set an authentic look, the team sourced various artifacts, tools and vehicles of that decade which was a very challenging task to get the exact details correct.
The main objective of the team is to the audience back to the era and give a feel of how the places and people of Pune looked back then.
Sohum Shah is also seen sporting a vintage look in the film, donning a moustache and wearing a dhoti and coat, Sohum is seen stepping into the shoes of a Kokanasth Brahman in the film.
Makers of Tumbbad took a place in Pune called Mutha river at Onkareshwar area as the reference. The location forms the backdrop of a major scene in the film, hence the team decided to replicate it. Taking the place as a reference, a sketch was drawn and production work began. It took about three weeks to recreate the small towns around and the main temple.
Touted to be a visually stunning film, Tumbbad has been receiving accolades even before the release of the film.
The much ambitious project has been a six long year roller coaster ride for Sohum Shah while Aanand L Rai defines the film as a genre-defining film.
Tumbbad is an Eros International and Aanand L Rai’s presentation and a Sohum Shah Films in association with Colour a Yellow Productions. Co-produced by Filmi Väst and Filmgate Films. Tumbbad is set to release on 12th October 2018.
