MUMBAI: T-Series and Vishesh Films’ ‘Aashiqui 2’, directed by Mohit Suri has taken a fair opening at the box office on Day 1. The film, which stars Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor in leading roles, has found many takers on its opening day.
Sequel to the 1990 super hit film ‘Aashiqui’, it looks like ‘Aashiqui 2’ has lived up to the expectations surrounding it. The destructive story of a fallen rockstar and his muse, ‘Aashiqui 2’ managed to generate a fair Rs 60 million (6 crore) net on Friday, Day 1.
The film did good business in districts of UP, Rajasthan and Gujarat, but received stiff competition from Hollywood release ‘Iron Man 3’ starring Robert Downey Jr. and Gweneth Paltrow in metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore.
In comparison ‘Iron Man 3’, managed a staggering Rs 77.3 million (7.73 crore) net.
‘Aashiqui 2’ has received average reviews and ratings from film critics all over, and its a wait and watch to see if the film will be able to sustain the pace generated so far.
