Box Office: Ajay Devgn And Tabu’s Drishyam’s First Day Collection!

Drishyam-One of the most awaited films of the year, Drishyam released yesterday on Friday and the film opened to a really poor start at the Box Office. Ajay Devgn starrer thriller suspense film Drishyam only managed to collect Rs. 5.25 crore net (52. 5 million) approx. on its opening day at the Box Office. Things don’t look that good for Ajay Devgn and Tabu starrer Drishyam, as the film pulled in pretty low numbers at the Box Office on its first day.

Directed by Nishikant Kamat, the film received occupancy rate of only 10-20% at the Box Office on its opening day. This is really low compared to the reaction we saw other Bollywood films receive this year at the Box Office. Drishyam received poor reaction in the morning, however, the film earned little better through its evening shows. But the thriller suspense drama should have earned far better as it is released in over 2200 screens.

The film did better in places like Mumbai, Pune and Delhi. However, the film couldn’t attract movie lovers in West Bengal and Bihar. Seems like Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan, even on its 3rd Friday at the Box Office is pulling major crowd towards him at the theatres from other films and this might have caused Ajay Devgn his film Drishyam’s opening at the Box Office, as the film shockingly earned poorly. On Thursday, director Nishikant Kamat’s Drishyam had paid previews where it again received very low occupancy and managed to only collect Rs. 50 lakhs net (5 million) approx. So if we add paid preview collections and Drishyam’s Friday earnings, the film so far has collected Rs. 5.75 crore net (57.5 million) approx. only. The basic idea of paid preview was to let the word of mouth get around, so it can build up audiences for the film’s opening on Friday. However, by the looks of it, it seems that the paid preview came of no help as the film disappointingly opened to poor star on its first day at the Box Office.

Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam will have to work really hard on Saturday and Sunday and pull in some good numbers if it wishes to have a good run at the Box Office. For now, all our eyes are on Drishyam’s first weekend run at the Box Office.
