MUMBAI: Last week’s release Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge is doing better than this week’s releases Right Ya Wrong, Hide Seek and Na Ghar Ka Na Ghaat Ka at the box office.
While Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge had an average opening last week, it’s still doing better than the releases this week. Out of the three films that released this week, Right Ya Wrong opened better than the other two with approximately 30 per cent occupancy, while the other two films have performed dismally at the box office.
Besides the film releases, this week saw the screening of the IPL matches at most of the multiplexes.
Fun Cinemas COO Vishal Kapur tells Businessofcinema.com, "We are screening matches across 20 of our 26 properties and the response is satisfactory. In most of the cities we had around 100-150 admits each, which might look less as far as occupancy goes but it’s just one match. We are sure that as the matches get more crucial like towards the semi-finals and finals, the demand will increase."
Cinemax’s Rajkot property got the highest footfalls for IPL 3 on the opening day and expectations are high from Mumbai and other major metros for IPL screenings.
While most of the producers shy away from releasing films during the IPL season, films like Love Sex Aur Dhokha, Shaapit, Idiot Box and Lahore are lined up for release this month and April will see the release of the Shahid Kapoor-starrer Paathshala, Vivek Oberoi’s Prince and Ram Gopal Varma’s Phoonk 2.
For the time being, the catch word is IPL.
