Box Office: Fox Star Studios’ Rio sees good opening weekend

MUMBAI: Fox Star Studios’ latest 3D film Rio has grossed Rs 28 million (Rs 2.8 crore) in its opening weekend in India.
Directed by Carlos Saldana and featuring the voices of Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway, Jamie Foxx, the film has garnered the number one opening for any Hollywood animation film; beating records of films like Ice Age 3, Toy Story 3 and Shrek 4.
Dubbed in Hindi with voiceovers by Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Ranvir Shorey & Vinay Pathak, Rio has got the second biggest opening of 2011 for any Hollywood movie.
 
Fox Star Studios India CEO Vijay Singh said, "We are delighted by the consistently positive response to RIO from across the country. The film has generated a strong word of mouth and is exciting audiences of all ages. It’s great to see Indian audiences warm up to animation films."
Internationally, Rio reinvigorated the foreign box office with an estimated $55 million across 72 countries; with good collections from Brazil, Russia and Mexico. Rio opens in the U.S. and Canada on 15 April and also expands to 19 more foreign markets, including France, Belgium and Italy.
