MUMBAI: Shoojit Sircar’s espionage thriller ‘Madras Cafe’, starring John Abraham and Nargis Fakhri in the lead, has managed a decent opening on Day 1.

Produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures, ‘Madras Cafe’ has been courting controversy for a while, due to its content, but this hasn’t dissuaded audiences from going to the theaters to catch the political flick.

On day 1, ‘Madras Cafe’ did a fair business of approximately Rs 49.7 million (Rs 4.97 crore) net.

Based loosely on the Sri Lankan civil war, ‘Madras Cafe’ held a lot of promise as far as the story line was concerned, and generated good reviews across the board. With positive word-of-mouth, the opening weekend is like to fare well.
