Blu-ray raked in $1.1 Billion in 2009

MUMBAI: According to preliminary data from Adams Media Research, Blu-ray movie sales in 2009 generated revenues of $1.1 billion, up nearly 100% from the previous year. 12.6% of the money from disc sales in 2009 came from Blu-ray. The number of homes with Blu-ray players grew from 3 million to 8 million.

 

Overall, physical Blu-ray and DVD disc sales revenues were $8.73 billion, down 13.3% year-on-year. For the first time since 2002, theatrical box office receipts eclipsed packaged-media sales, with $9.87 billion, up 9.8%
