Columbia Pictures names Michael Marshall as SVP business affairs

Mumbai: Michael Marshall has joined Columbia Pictures as senior vice president business affairs. It was announced by Business Affairs for Columbia Pictures senior executive vice president Andrew Gumpert.

Marshall, who previously held the position of EVP business and legal affairs at Our Stories Films, will negotiate development and production related deals for Columbia Pictures’ feature projects, including rights acquisition and personal services deals for writers, directors, producers and actors.

"I first got to know Michael when we worked together at Miramax/Dimension Films," said Gumpert. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table, and I am very pleased to have him on my team once again."

"I’m excited about the opportunity to be here at Sony working with the team of Columbia Pictures’ executives, and I am especially happy to be reunited with Gumpert again," said Marshall.

Prior to his position at Our Stories Films, Marshall was the head of business and legal affairs at Marvel, where he helped prepare and execute the agreements for a slate of superhero films including The Hulk and Iron Man.  Before that, Marshall served as SVP business and legal affairs at Dimension Films where he made deals and drafted agreements for Dimension’s development projects and feature productions including all three films in the Spy Kids trilogy, Frank Miller’s Sin City and The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3D.

During his career, Marshall has also held various legal positions at Universal Pictures, Arama Entertainment, and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

A Los Angeles native and member of the California State Bar, Marshall is a graduate of Pepperdine School of Law and the University of California, Berkeley.
