Michael Jackson’s This Is It takes box office by storm

MUMBAI: Michael Jackson’s This Is It debuted worldwide across 99 countries on 27 October. Released by Sony Pictures, the movie raked in a whopping $ 2.2 million on its opening night screenings on Tuesday in North America alone.

Moreover, on Wednesday, till the noon shows, the movie had already crossed the previous night’s $2.2 million mark at the box office.

The initial reports coming in from across the globe have also been positive.

The film has MJ singing and dancing to some of the biggest hits of his career like Smooth Criminal, Earth Song, Beat It, Thriller, Black or White and Man in the Mirror amongst others.

While Sony acquired the rights of the movie from AEG Live for $60 million, the movie is expected to rake in huge monies at the worldwide box office.

The movie had 18 simultaneous screenings across five continents on Tuesday night. This Is It, which released simultaneously across 99 countries on Wednesday, will additionally be released in few more territories by the weekend. Moreover, chances are that if the demand for the movie is high, the studio may also extend the run-time of the movie in theaters from the initial plan of two weeks.
