Plan C and Jayantilal Gada (Pen) presents ‘Aiyaary’ A Neeraj Pandey Film. Produced by Shital Bhatia, Dhaval Jayantilal Gada, Motion Picture Capital is slated to release on 16th February 2018.
There have been recent reports about how Neeraj Pandey’s upcoming film ‘Aiyaary’ is based on the Adarsh Housing Society scam that shocked the nation.
A new clip from the film also showcased its resemblance to the case.
Since the movie is set with the Army as its backdrop and also delves into arms deals and the lobbies involved in it, the Ministry of Defence recently reviewed it to suggest a few modifications.
Meanwhile, we hear that the cast and crew of ‘Aiyaary’ are planning to visit the infamous Adarsh Housing Society, ahead of the film’s release. But the point is, will they be granted permission to enter the building?
Featuring Manoj Bajpayee and Sidharth Malhotra as Army officers, the movie also stars former Miss Indias Rakul Preet Singh and Pooja Chopra, Anupam Kher, Naseeruddin Shah, Vikram Gokhale and Adil Hussain in pivotal roles. ‘Aiyaary’ releases on February 16.
Neeraj Pandey took to Twitter to thank the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the Ministry of Defense for clearing his upcoming film, Aiyaary, for a February 16 release.
There have been several roadblocks on the way to D-day for Neeraj. Recently, after viewing the film, the CBFC asked for it to be screened for officials of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) who after watching it last Saturday asked for certain changes. It was only after these were incorporated that the film was greenlit with a ‘U/A’ certificate.
The censors insisted on the MOD seeing the espionage thriller not because Sidharth Malhotra and Manoj Bajpayee play army officers in it but because the film, which tackles corruption, also rakes up the Adarsh Housing scam.
The Adarsh Housing Society was a posh, 31-storey building built on prime real estate in Colaba for war widows and Defence personnel. Over several years, politicians, bureaucrats, and military officers allegedly conspired with officials to subvert rules concerning land ownership, zoning, floor space index and membership to grab flats in this cooperative society which was public property at below-market rates. The scam was unearthed in November 2010 leading to the resignation of the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ashok Chavan. In January 2011, the state government set up a two-member judicial commission to inquire into the matter which, after deposing 182 witnesses over two years, submitted its final report in April 2013. It highlighted 25 illegal allotments, including 22 purchases made by proxy, and the role played by four former Chief Ministers, including Ashok Chavan, Vilasrao Deshmukh, Sushilkumar Shinde and Shivajirao Nilangekar Patil, two former urban development ministers, Rajesh Tope and Sunil Tatkare, and 12 top bureaucrats for various illegal acts. The CBI, Income Tax Department and Enforcement Directorate are investigating the allegations.
In Aiyaary, there are references by Sidharth and Pooja Chopra’s characters to a plot in Mumbai’s Colaba. Even Naseeruddin Shah who plays a watchman, alludes to this particular plot, saying that the building being constructed was meant for the widows of martyred soldiers. “Kha jayenge, neta aur neta ke chamche,” his character sighs, alluding to the Adarsh scam. Naseer plays an important cameo in the film and in the trailer is heard shouting as he is being taken away, “Gareeb aadmi ko ungli nahin karne ka, saab.”
A source close to the development reiterated that the film takes the lid off many scams, the Adarsh scam being one of them. “It is integral to the plot,” the source added. When quizzed on the multiple changes reportedly asked for by the MoD, the source said, “The filmmakers were glad they didn’t ask for too many, there were just four minor changes which were carried out to everyone’s satisfaction.”
Aiyaary is touted to be an espionage thriller, backed by a crisp and intriguing storyline.
Starring Manoj Bajpayee and Sidharth Malhotra as the mentor and protege, ‘Aiyaary’ also stars Anupam Kher, Naseeruddin Shah, Rakul Preet Singh, Pooja Chopra in pivotal roles.

With the end of 2016 arises a question for all Bollywood fans out there, “What is the film industry offering them in 2017? “. 2017 has definitely got to offer interesting concepts and creative films but with a fierce competition on the exact dates of release.
Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma in their next film is going to be a tough competition for the Akshay Kumar starrer Crack directed by Neeraj Pandey.
Seems like the King Khan has forgotten from the Dilwale tragedy last year. When Dilwale clashed with Bajirao Mastani, it was quite a tough time for the cast and crew after the massive success of Bajirao Mastani. And Neeraj Pandey with his lucky charm Akshay Kumar is expected to be tough again after the success of Rustom this year.
With few more clashes next year, let’s have an idea of the most interesting ones.
Shah Rukh Khan after already changing Raees’s release date after seeing a clash with Sultan this year seems to now face another clash with the world’s 3rd most handsome man, Hrithik Roshan and his film Kaabil also starring Yami Gautam in the lead. The battle between the two has already begun after the announcement of Kaabil’s dates.
Sushant Singh’s sudden popularity after MS Dhoni- The untold story has now excited the audiences with Raabta that features him opposite Kriti Sanon. The sizzling chemistry between the two seems to be a tough competition to again an Akshay Kumar starrer Jolly LLB 2 which is a sequel of Jolly LLB being a courtroom comedy.
Bollywood has got more to offer the viewers next year yet these remain few of the most eye catchy.
For all the B-Town fans out there, brace yourselves for all these interesting movies and how they clash with each other.

This is the first of a kind promotional stunt. Salman Khan, who isn’t even part of Imitaz Ali’s upcoming untitled venture, announced the date of the release of the film that stars Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma. Tentatively titled The Ring, while the makers are still on the hunt for a better title, the poster on unveiled on Twitter by Salman didn’t have a name, but just a date, August 11, 2017.
However, this release date has got a lot of eyebrows raised. The date indicates that it’s going to be Independence Day 2017 release. A few months ago, Akshay Kumar unveiled the first look of his upcoming film Neeraj Pandey’s Crack stating the release as Independence Day release; which means we might see an Akky vs SRK clash on box-office next year.
Akshay Kumar has taken liking for Independence Day after the success of Rustom. He has also announced films for the next two Independence Day release – Crack in 2017 and Reema Kagti’s directorial venture Gold in 2018.
Shah Rukh Khan’s is a musical love story, the genre SRK is a king of, on the other hand Akshay Kumar is returning with director Neeraj Pandey, a winning combination so far.
There is a chance of it being postponed from Akshay’s end as he has not even begun work on Crack, but Shah Rukh has filmed half the movie and will soon wrap up the remaining portions. On the other hand, Akshay has his hands full with Jolly LL.B, Robot 2.0 and Toilet – Ek Prem Katha.
We wait for the official date to be announced by the Crack team, but whatever it maybe, there is a chance of an overlap.

Fine actor Manoj Bajpayee is one of the few actors in Bollywood who has always taken up challenging and daring roles in his cinematic journey. The actor has been appreciated by audiences for his outstanding performances not only in feature films but also in the short film medium. The actor has received lot of accolades for his work in the all of his short films be it ‘Taandav’ or ‘Kriti’ or the latest one ‘Ouch’. Recently, Manoj was awarded with the Best Actor award for his performance in the short film ‘Taandav’ at the Flamingo Film festival, which is associated with prominent Cannes Film Festival. Now adding another award into his kitty, the actor has bagged yet again the Best Actor award for his latest short film ‘Ouch’ that is directed by Neeraj Pandey in the prestigious 5th Delhi Shorts International Film Festival – 16.
In Neeraj Pandey’s new short film Ouch, Bajpayee plays a middle aged man caught between the domestic pull of his family life and the lure of the forbidden. And not unlike before, Bajpayee, with his tragicomic touches, makes what could be seen as immoral, endearing. Manoj has done it all, from theatre to films to short films with utmost ease and terrific outcomes.
“Crisp acting is something I yearn for and I like to challenge myself with different roles that demand different things from me. It makes me work towards being more versatile and cross my last mark. I have been very blessed that I have been able to do what I have stated above and have been receiving so much love for it; but I always wanted to explore the possibilities of short films as I feel they are more challenging. You have to communicate a story and pass on the emotions in much lesser time than you get in feature films. It’s really overwhelming to learn that my performances in short films are being loved and acknowledged by not only the audiences globally, but also by the critics and members of the film fraternity” says Manoj Bajpayee when asked about his thought behind venturing into short films.
Manoj Bajpayee has been nominated/awarded at many esteemed film festivals like Asia Pacific Film Festival in Brisbane (Australia), Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival (MISAFF), 7th Jagran Film Festival and many more. His film ‘Aligarh‘ was also screened in festivals like Busan International Film Festival, South Asian Film Festival of Paris, Dallas/Fort Worth South Asian Film Festival (DFW SAFF) to name a few.
The much-awaited biopic of the year, M.S Dhoni-The Untold Story starring Sushant Singh Rajput was released on September 30. Soon after the release, everyone was in praise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who has essayed the role of Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The movie showcases the journey of the player and how he faced struggles in life to be what he is today.
Directed by Neeraj Pandey, the film showcases how with hardships and dreams, Dhoni made his career. The film also looks at Dhoni’s personal life and how it changed his life and career. In fact, real Dhoni himself was all praises for Sushant Singh for doing a brilliant job of enacting him on the big screen.
Well, the film is done and released but reportedly all was not well during the shooting of the film. According to reports, director Neeraj Pandey and Dhoni ignored each other during the shooting of the film. As per reports, Dhoni didn’t want any controversial part of his life to make it to the big screen and wanted only to retain positive and good aspects in the film. He even got some of the scenes chopped during the editing. Shockingly, there came a moment when Neeraj Pandey threatened to walk out.
All we can say is, “All’s Well That Ends Well”! The film is doing a good business at the Box Office and the makers of the film, as well as Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is happy with everything.
Bollywood Celebs Review Sushant Singh Rajput’s MS Dhoni
It has been a week since Neeraj Pandey’s M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story hit the screens. The movie has become a talking point in the town and it has surely won the hearts of millions of people. Actor Sushant Singh Rajput has hit a huge six when it comes to his performance in the film. Sushant Singh Rajput essayed the role of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and he has perfectly walked in the shoes of the ODI Captain of India. The efforts put by the actor for essaying the role could be seen clearly on the big screen. He has all the right to take away the praises coming his way.
Out of many appreciations, there’s one person who has written an open letter to the actor. Amul Vikas Mohan, editor at Super Cinema wrote the letter to the actor.
Here is the open letter:
“The Sheer Awesomeness that is Sushant Singh Rajput.
Very rarely I feel compelled to talk about a performance with my peers and friends. But once I saw MS DHONI: THE UNTOLD STORY last Friday I found myself talking endlessly about the movie but more so about the acting prowess of Sushant Singh Rajput.
You see I’m a diehard Dhoni fanboy, I’m a fan of his destructive batting. I’m a fan of his calmness when he is in the most pressure situations on the field. I’m a fan of his post-match press conferences the way he handles himself and at the same time represents India on a global stage. So having said all of that I was a little apprehensive about how Sushant was going to pull off this mammoth task of playing a character which is so revenant to all Indians all across the world.
Dhoni is a nuanced performance. I somewhat knew that Sushant is a good actor but this performance is leading me to say that he is as good as those whom we regard to be the best in his generation. He is not your Bombay boy and that journey is visible in his performance. His acting is well informed and shows the hunger of a small town boy. In the gamut of Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Varun Dhawan, Sushant is a bit of a challenger. More power to him and to performances like this one.
From frame number one of the movie Sushant was it. He not only looked the part but he also got all the major mannerisms of Dhoni patted down to a T. The opening sequence of Sushant waiting in the pavilion on the night of the World Cup Final; he has brilliantly handled the restlessness yet the composed mind frame of the captain of India in the biggest match of his career brilliantly. Post that even his walk with his back to the camera is as if the makers got MS Dhoni himself to come and shoot that bit, and you know it’s the sheer brilliance of Sushant that makes you feel that you are watching Dhoni!
See it’s very difficult to play a character so important to one and all and play it convincingly enough. It shows the hard work and training that he would have gone through to internalise the role. I firmly believe that Sushant too is going to be etched out in the pop-culture because of this very character. I also felt that this movie and this character is going to be be a major watershed event for Sushant’s career in the longer run.
We all know he is good actor he has proved that in most of his prior releases, but this one character is going to catapult him to a whole another level once the dust settles on the movie eventually. An actor’s job description is to seamlessly move from one character to another and Sushant seems to have mastered that act in the handful of characters he has played in his career thus far.”
We couldn’t agree more after reading this letter. With such a terrific performance of his career, we would not mind saying that the era of Sushant Singh Rajput has begun in Bollywood.
Neeraj Pandey and Akshay Kumar has given us amazing hits together like Special 26 and Baby. [tps_footer]In Bollywood, sports-based films have never had too many takers. Over the years, only a few such movies, like Awwal Number (1990), Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992), Lagaan (2001) and Chak De! India (2007), have managed to hit the big screen. But the last few years have witnessed a shift, with films like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013) and Mary Kom (2014) hitting the bullseye. In fact, 2016 will see a slew of sports-based stories on the big screen.
Salman Khan will be seen wrestling and trying out mixed martial arts in director Ali Abbas Zafar’sSultan. Aamir Khan will play ex-wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat in director Nitesh Tiwari’sDangal, which is based on the struggles Phogat had to face to train his daughters in wrestling. Also, cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s life will be brought to the silver screen by Sushant Singh Rajput, in director Neeraj Pandey’s biopic on the ODI Indian skipper. On the other hand, R Madhavan stars in Saala Khadoos, a sports drama revolving around boxing.
“Earlier, film-makers usually made movies that were considered safe, like love stories, action films, etc. Also, most of the sports-based films that were attempted in the earlier decades didn’t do well, so no one ventured into that territory for many years. Now is a good time as far as the variety in plots is concerned, because film-makers are trying different kinds of stories. I’m glad that more sports films are now being made in India,” says film-maker Rajkumar Hirani, who has produced SK. He adds, “Sports films are usually about the triumph of an underdog, and they make you feel good. Such movies are happy films.”
Also, in queue is the biopic on former Indian captain Mohammed Azharuddin, starring Emraan Hashmi in the lead. It is being directed by Anthony D’Souza. A film on shuttler Saina Nehwal is also in the pipeline; it will be directed by Amole Gupte. Biopics on personalities like wrestler Gama Pehalwan (to be directed by Parmeet Sethi), footballer Sibdas Bhaduri (to be helmed by Shoojit Sircar), Dhyan Chand (to be made by Karan Johar) and hockey player Sandeep Singh (to be made by Chitrangda Singh) are being planned too.
“Sports have always captured the imagination of our nation. With time, India has seen the emergence of more and more sports icons from different fields. It’s not just their achievements, but also their struggles, which make their journeys fascinating and inspiring,” says Tiwari.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh feels that the actors’ desire to do more challenging roles has also spurred this trend. “Despite being a sports-loving nation, unfortunately, we haven’t generously experimented with sports as a theme in our films. But now, actors want to experiment with fresher themes and sports provide a gripping backdrop. It’s great that some of the top names in Bollywood are part of such films,” he says.
On the other hand, exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi feels that the success of BMB and MK has “tilted the scales” in the favour of such movies. “Since we have been watching these sports or hearing about these many sports personalities since childhood, the sheer connect with such films is immediate and very strong,” he says.[/tps_footer]

The actor is currently working really hard on the biopic. He grew long hair, transformed a lot and had rigorous training for cricket. Recently, Sushant was seen filming as a ticket collector in West Bengal. He stunned onlookers at the station as he made a stunning transformation, looking every bit like MS Dhoni.
Sushant Singh’s hard hitting preparation for the film is commendable. The actor, who mesmerized everyone with his performance in Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, is so dedicated in preparing for his role in the film that he often talks and behaves like Dhoni just to get inside his character’s skin perfectly. Neeraj pandey’s directorial biopic on cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni titled M.S.Dhoni: The untold story has been reportedly going through some tough hurdles.
The reasons cited for the delay of this ambitious project which stars Sushant Singh Rajput in the main lead playing the cricketer Dhoni is over budget of the film and a few potholes in the script.
However, the team of the film has cleared the air and opined that the film is on schedule.
If rumors are to be believed, then, the three beautiful entrants of Bollywood- Alia Bhatt, Shraddha Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, are approached for the role of Dhoni’s wife Sakshi, out of which one will be selected.
The three actresses are equally interested and keen to work in the biopic and have shown heightened enthusiasm.
The biopic is said to be a film concentrated not only on the cricketer’s professional life but also on his personal life.
The love story of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his wife Sakshi is a wonder in itself. The most loved cricketer apparently had fallen for wife Sakshi while she was interning at a five star hotel in Kolkatta pursuing Hotel Management.
Now which lovely newbie bags this wonderful opportunity opposite Sushant Singh Rajput? Only time will tell.
There were rumours that said that Akshay Kumar would be donating the first day collectionof his upcoming film Gabbar Is Back for Nepal Earthquake releif fund. The actor has denied all such speculations by saying that he couldn’t take a decision like this, as he is merely an actor in the film and not the producer.
“Heard a rumour that I am donating #GabbarIsBack‘s 1st day collections to the #NepalEarthquake victims. Firstly, I am not the producer so that’s not my call to make and more importantly I don’t need to wait for the film’s release to do my bit,” Akshay took to his Twitter account to set some fact straight.
Gabbar Is Back is packed with action and drama. Akshay plays a role of a daredevil police officer in the film. Directed by Krish, Gabbar Is Back also stars Shruti Haasan. The film will hit the theatres in May 1, 2015.
Akshay, who was last seen in Neeraj Pandey‘s Baby, shot few scenes of the film in Nepal. In his tweet, Bollywood’s KhiladiAkshayalso shared a link for the support of Nepal. Few days back, a very horrific tragedy took place in Nepal. Last week the country was hit by a very powerful earthquake; measuring 7.9 on Richter scale. In this tragic calamity, over 5,000 people were killed.
Akshay Kumar’s film based on terrorism is inspired by real incidents. Recently, a special screening was held for the real life heroes who fight for our country against terrorism.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar was invited as the special guest for the event. Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher, director Neeraj Pandey, and producer Bhushan Kumar were present at the event.
Senior officers of the Indian Army and Indian Navy attended the screening held for them. BJP leader L.K. Advani also attended the screening with his daughter Pratibha.
“Baby” is an action packed, well-researched, non-sentimental film fighting conspiracies and terrorism. An undercover unit lead by Akshay Kumar is seen keeping an eye on the terrorist activities, in order to stop them from executing their terrorist activities. The film clearly discusses the issue of terrorism that we are facing in our country.
In a recent interview, Anupam Kher had stated that according to him “Baby” was Akshay Kumar’s best work till date. The movie that released yesterday also stars Rana Daggubati, Danny Denzongpa and Taapsee Pannu.
The most anticipated film based on terrorism, “Baby” released today across the country. Actor Anupam Kher shared his view saying that the release of the film couldn’t have been better timed. The veteran actor also praised Akshay Kumar’s performance saying it is his life’s best work.
As Republic Day is nearing and US President Barack Obama is visiting India to visit PM Narendra Modi, regarding matters including that of terrorism itself, Anupam Kher thinks it was in best interest to release the film at this time.
“Baby‘ is releasing at a perfect time as it’s Republic Day and US President Barack Obama is visiting India to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi-ji to talk about (things including) terrorism. ‘Baby‘ is also awakening people about the same issue, and talks about how we can all deal with this big issue together” says the 59-year-old actor.
Talking about his co-star Akshay, he said, “‘Baby’ is Akshay’s life’s best performance. I don’t think anybody could have played the lead better than him. He is improving with every film. It’s an international level performance by him.”
Talking about Neeraj Pandey, the director of “Baby” with whom Anupam Kher has collaborated in the past for “A Wednesday” and “Special 26”, he stated, “He (Neeraj Pandey) comes up with the most amazing themes and his own stamp of brilliance. So whether it was ‘A Wednesday‘ and ‘Special 26‘, both the characters were very different.”
“Baby is about the unknown faces of so many undercover agents, who play a very important role in unification of the country” says Anupam Kher. “Similarly, my role as Om Prakash Shukla in ‘Baby‘ is very meaty and an exciting role of an undercover agent.”
The actor further added his experience working with Neeraj Pandey as ‘always very special’.
Khatron Ke Khiladi, Akshay Kumar’s action packed thriller film ‘Baby’ hits theatres today! The movie features a lot of action scenes, as the protagonist is an intelligence officer, on his mission to save lives and fight terrorism. Certainly Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Baby’ is a film you must not miss!
Here Are Five Reasons To Watch Akshay Kumar’s ‘Baby’
Neeraj Pandey is a reluctant interviewee! Beyond work he prefers to be left alone. It was quite difficult reaching out to him, that too on the evening before his film Baby would release across theatres. After directing three films, does he feel nervous before a release? Well, his attitude reflected loads of calm confidence and he seemed to rather enjoy this phase rather than sulk in uncertainty. A person of few words otherwise got candid in an exclusive interview with Business of Cinema and bared his heart on his journey as a film maker.
Two of your films are based on terrorism!
True. Both A Wednesday and Baby deals with terrorism. But the point of views for both films are pretty different. A Wednesday was more about a common man and his sensitivities when it comes to something as aghast as terrorism. Baby is an action-packed thriller.
You are working with Akshay Kumar once again. Comment.
After Special 26, we weren’t much in touch. By the time the script for Baby came up, he seemed to be the first ideal choice for the character. Of course I had the luxury of experience, having worked with him earlier. I knew what works for him and how, and what doesn’t. When we narrated the story to him, he was as excited as I was, towards joining hands once again.
What are some of the qualities of Akshay Kumar that makes the director’s job easier?
He is a fantastic listener, which makes you feel well attended. Also, he is much disciplined and extremely hard working. You are at peace working with him.
It is pretty unusual that a film has six villains! Your take on that?
They are some characters, and their kind of people exists in different parts of the society or in different parts of the world! You can name them villain but that doesn’t make them any worse than what they are. I won’t brand them as villains. Rather I would call this an ensemble cast that adorns my film!
Tell us about your growth as a director!
From A Wednesday to Baby, it had been a fulfilling journey. I am constantly learning every day, with the films that I see, books that I read, people I encounter, events I experience. Of course being a part of the film industry I have come across like-minded and different-minded people with whom I could discuss and debate my thoughts. That helped me grow. After a sensitive film like A Wednesday, I tried a comic drama with Special 26, and now we are about to release a thriller with Baby!
Your films are usually male-dominated. Would we find Taapsee and Madhurima take sufficient charge rather than just a screen presence?
I never prefer to have someone just for the sake of it. Both Taapsee and Madhurima are hardcore professionals and they have excellent contributions in the film. The best part was that they knew their job pretty well and working with them was a great experience.
Tell us about your childhood. How did you come to film making?
I am a Bihari by origin, but I was born and brought up in Kolkata. I came to Mumbai in 2000. Those days I was making documentaries. Around this time I formed a production company called Quarter Inch Productions which did ad films and documentaries. Soon after our production house Friday Filmworks happened, which produced my debut film, A Wednesday, in collaboration with UTV.
Neeraj Pandey’s Baby, starring Akshay Kumar, Rana Daggubati, Anupam Kher, Danny Denzongpa, Taapsee Pannu, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Madhurima Tuli, Sushant Singh, KK Menon and others. Business of Cinema wishes the entire team an excellent run in box office.

Recently, when Akshay Kumar’s new film “Baby” was being promoted, a lot of speculation was done as to why the film is titled that way.
As Akshay’s “Heyy Baby” had the similar title, a lot of curiosity was generated among the people leaving them clueless as to what the film is really about.
So to clear the air, director Neeraj Pandey has announced that the title of the film has nothing to do with the involvement of an actual baby.
He added, “The title of my film does not have a huge secret. It is the nickname for the black operation that Akshay and his team are a part of. As their unit in the film is on a trail run for five years, it is in its infancy, and thus it is called as “Baby”. Nothing more.”
Neeraj Pandey made it clear that he did not want to give his audience any kind of false hopes or keep them on the hook of curiosity. He stated, “The audience will only want to watch my film if they have an idea what it is about. I don’t want them to come see my movie with hopes of seeing an actual cute toddler in it.”
Stereotypical Racist Jokes, Cheap Sexual Humour and A Very Predictable Screenplay, is what Total Siyapaa is all about. Total Siyapaa is an adaptation of the 2004 Spanish film, Seres Queridos.
What is surprising is the fact, that how could Total Siyapaa end up looking like this when it has such a strong creative team behind it. Directed by E. Nivas, who gave us such films like Shool, Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega and Dum, written and produced by Neeraj Pandey who has been behind films like A Wednesday and Special 26.
Now coming to the film, Aman (Ali Zafar) is a Muslim musician from Pakistan, and is in love with Asha (Yaami Gautam) a Hindu working in broadcast journalism, both settled in London.
Asha’s parents are broad minded and are ok with the fact that Aman is a Muslim but then hell breaks loose, when they get to know that Aman is a Pakistani. What follows are a series of unfunny comedy of errors that are forced, stretched and at times morbid. One misfortune after another befalls Aman who finds his day getting worse as he is humiliated and insulted by Asha‘s family.
Total Siyapaa boasts of a non-consistency in its plot. One moment Aman feels guilty for accidentally killing his prospective father-in-law and moments later he is joyously dancing with Asha’s sister.
Almost all characters in Total Siyapaa are caricatures. There’s Asha’s father (Anupam Kher), who just appears at regular intervals in the film, walks through the streets of London and his sole job here is to mistake a prostitute for his wife and get a lap dance. Asha’s grandfather (V.M. Badola) who lies in bed and plays with knives, Asha‘s crazy brother, her self-absorbed sister and finally Asha’s brother-in-law who is a miser, gives missed calls to his estranged wife and buys day-old flowers and closing-time pastries so he can get them cheap.
However, Ali Zafar manages to bring some humanity and sympathy for a helpless boyfriend trapped in a series of misunderstandings and Yami Gautam has nothing much to do in the film.
At the end of it all, Total Siyapaa belongs to Kirron Kher, who is cute, enduring and loveable as she is a charming over the top Punjabi mother. She is real and has tried to do complete justice to her role.
If one has to see the film, it’s only because of this powerhouse performer.
Bringing India and Pakistan closer, Reliance Entertainment is out with the trailer of Total Siyapaa, written by the very talented Neeraj Pandey and directed by Eeshwar Niwas.
WATCH THE TRAILER HERE:
Total Siyapaa starring Ali Zafar and Yami Gautam will certainly bring a smile on your face, with its freshness, well placed situational humor and excellent delivery by Kirron Kher.
The trailer begins with Kirron Kher speaking about her broad-minded approach to agree for an inter-religious marriage for her daughter Yami Gautam and her muslim boy-friend Ali Zafar, where both of them reside in London. And it all seemed too perfect until, Ali reveals that he is a Pakistani. And then, begins the satirical age old fight of the two nations, ideologies and of course cricket.
A hallucinating uncle, an aggressive brother, a sister helplessly hitting on Ali and a murder, it couldn’t get any more Siyapaa (troublesome) than this. However, the best part of the trailer is when Kirron hits on Ali Zafar, convincing the actor to call her beautiful.
Kirron Kher is Bollywood’s perfect embodiment of an Indian mother, with her dramatic reactions and her signature style of praying with a bell simply makes you laugh. .
Ali Zafar’s music is peppy, up-beat and fun to listen to. This will be his sixth film in Bollywood and Yami’s second. The actress looks gorgeous in the trailer, with her broad smile, beautiful features and that amazing glowing skin.
Total Siyapaa is an Indo-Pak romantic comedy set to be released on January 31, 2014.
Both Ali Zafar and Yami Gautam were present at the trailer launch of the film in Mumbai. Ali Zafar kept it casual in blue jeans, a printed tee and a grey blazer, while Yami stole the show in a beautiful orange saree with pink and glass border and a netted shouldered tube blouse, having all eyes on her.
MUMBAI: After conning audiences in ‘Special 26’, director-actor jodi Neeraj Pandey and Akshay Kumar are teaming up again for another realistic story.
Looks like Neeraj Pandey is all upbeat on making films based on real themes. From ‘A Wednesday’ with Naseeruddin Shah and ‘Special 26’ with Akshay Kumar or the new upcoming film.
Akshay Kumar who is currently promoting his upcoming film ‘Boss’ says, “The passion to create is so strong between Neeraj and me that I feel humble to be directed by such a strong-headed director.”
Neeraj Pandey adds, “It was a pleasure working with Akshay on our last film. The keenness to work again is mutual.”
Meanwhile the writer-director is also producing and has written another reality film ‘Aman Ki Asha’ to be directed by E Niwas.
It needs to be seen if Akshay Kumar and Neeraj Pandey manage to keep audiences thrilled like they did with ‘Special 26’.
MUMBAI: Neeraj Pandey’s well-appreciated film ‘Special Chabbis’ has now been made into a book. The cast of ‘Special 26’, were seen at Landmark stores here, to launch the book.
Though the face of ‘Special 26’, superstar Akshay Kumar was missing from the book launch, we glimpsed director Neeraj Pandey, veteran actor Anupam Kher (who, incidentally has received rave reviews for his performance in ‘Special 26’) and Manoj Bajpayee. The trio was extremely excited to see their film being made into a book, and spoke about their experiences filming it and also about the expectations people had. They all unanimously also said that they were happy that the film is being appreciated by audiences and critics alike.
Said Neeraj Pandey, when asked if the book was a knee-jerk reaction when the film started doing good business, “It’s not that the book went into writing last night and came out today. You must understand that it’s been an on-going process, and that the book has been in works for the last eight months. So it was supposed to happen this way. This book is the novel form of the original screenplay.”
Manoj Bajpayee, on being quizzed about his picture appearing on the back cover, quickly surmised: “This is a book about the con-men, and this (pointing to his own mug at the back cover) is the guy who is on their trail. So the designers must have thought of it this way, that’s all there is to it.”
MUMBAI: Director Neeraj Pandey’s second film ‘Special Chabbis’, produced by Viacom 18, featuring Akshay Kumar, Kajal Aggarwal and Anupam Kher in lead roles, has held strong in its first five days at the the box office.
The film which released on 8 February, garnered an average approximate of Rs 62.5 million (Rs 6.25 crore net) on its first day. After seeing an acceptable upsurge during the weekend, the 3 day total of ‘Special Chabbis’ settled in the range of Rs 248.5 million (Rs 24.85 crore) net.
Day 4, Monday and Day 5, Tuesday held steady with collections of Rs 45 million (Rs 4.5 crore) net and Rs 41 million (Rs 4.10 crore) net, respectively. ‘Special Chabbis’ may not have been aggressively promoted, but the word of mouth for the film has been good. The 5 day total of the film now stands in the range of Rs 334.5 million (Rs 33.45 crore) net.
MUMBAI: Viacom 18’s ‘Special Chabbis’, starring Akshay Kumar, Kajal Aggarwal and Anupam Kher in lead roles, has picked up the pace over its opening weekend. The Neeraj Pandey directorial hit theatres on Friday, 8 February, and has seen a good upsurge since Day 1.
As we reported, Pandey’s intricate suspense film ‘Special 26’ had managed to garner an average approximate Rs 62.5 million (Rs 6.25 crore net) on Day 1. The territories of Mumbai, Delhi and parts of Punjab were major contributors to the film’s business.
Day 2, Saturday saw a business in the range of Rs 86 million (Rs 8.60 crore) net at the ticketing windows. Day 3 Sunday was even better with a business of approximately Rs 100 million (Rs 10 crore) net. The 3 day total of the film was thereby close to Rs 248.5 million (Rs 24.85 crore) net.
The word of mouth has been quite strong for this Akshay Kumar and Anupam Kher starrer. From previous releases, it was only ‘Race 2’ which posed as a threat, but the film’s run has now gradually fettered out. Amongst current releases débutante director and ace choreographer Remo D’Souza’s ‘Anybody Can Dance’ has also seen a fair pick up over the weekend, but is clearly meant for a niche audience.
MUMBAI: UTV Motion Pictures’ ‘Anybody Can Dance’ or ‘ABCD’, which is directed by choreographer Remo D’Souza, has managed to garner decent opening weekend business at the box office.
The film, which stars choreographers Prabhu Deva, Ganesh Acharya, Terence Lewis and dancer Salman Yusuf Khan in the lead roles, has picked up the pace on its second and third day.
‘ABCD’, which is Remo D’Souza’s directorial debut, had seen a soft start on Day 1 with a figure of Rs 45 million (Rs 4.5 crore) net.
Day 2 and day 3 were harbingers of good news for ‘ABCD’, with the film garnering Rs 61 million (Rs 6.10 crore) net and Rs 72.5 million (Rs 7.25 crore) net on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Which brings the 3 day total of ‘ABCD’ up to Rs 178.5 million (Rs 17.85 crore) net.
Since this is a small budget film, with no major stars (with the exception of Prabhu Deva), plus the film caters to a niche market, the collections garnered so far at the ticketing windows are quite fair.
MUMBAI: UTV Motion Pictures’ ‘Anybody Can Dance’ or ‘ABCD’, which is directed by choreographer Remo D’Souza, has taken a poor opening day at the box office. The film stars choreographers Prabhu Deva, Ganesh Acharya, Terence Lewis and dancer Salman Yusuf Khan in the lead roles.
Remo D’Souza’s ‘ABCD’ has accrued a dull figure of Rs 45 million (Rs 4.5 crore net) on its opening day. Interestingly, ‘ABCD’ began the day on a better note than the other big release this Friday – Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Special Chabbis’, however towards the evening the tables turned, and the latter fared better than the former. The highest business came from multiplexes in Mumbai and Delhi.
The fact that the film is for a niche audience (read: dance lovers) and the promotional campaign was quite low-key may have been the cause of such bleak numbers for ‘ABCD’. Though ‘ABCD’ will see Prabhu Deva reprise his ‘Muqabla’ dance number, the film has so far failed to make a mark on Day 1, at the box office. It remains to be seen whether ‘ABCD’ can fight off the competition from Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Special 26’, which stars superstar Akshay Kumar as a fake CBI officer, conducting raids and stealing away the black money of rich politicians and black marketeers.
MUMBAI: Viacom 18’s ‘Special Chabbis’, directed by Neeraj Pandey, featuring Akshay Kumar, Kajal Aggarwal and Anupam Kher, has taken an average opening day at the box office. The film has hit theatres on 8 February and has seen a mediocre start on Day 1.
Director Neeraj Pandey’s (of ‘A Wednesday’ fame) ‘Special 26’ has garnered approximately Rs 62.5 million (Rs 6.25 crore net) on Day 1. The film began on a very soft note with only about 30% occupancy during the day, however evening shows saw some pick up. Mumbai, Delhi and parts of Punjab have contributed to the majority of the film’s business.
The film has seen a fair amount of promotions, but considering that the only other Bollywood release this week is Prabhu Deva’s ‘Any Body Can Dance’ or ‘ABCD’, which is a smaller- budget film centered around the theme of dance – clearly for a niche audience; Special Chabbis’ performance on day one is not so encouraging. The reviews too are mixed, indicating that the film may have difficult times ahead.
Director Neeraj Pandey’s ‘A Wednesday’ won awards and an instant fan following. His sophomore effort does not show the sharpness of his debut film. The primary flaw, compared to ‘A Wednesday’, is the over-stating of information and repetition of shots. So you see repeatedly see Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher and their band of conmen marching down corridors. Equally, you see Manoj Bajpayee and his team of law enforcers also marching in formation, both to ear-shattering background music.
Further, after the first con has been shown in great detail, we are subjected to watching it two more times – albeit in black and white snapshots, just minutes after the first time you have seen it. Pandey, surprisingly, doubts the memory and intelligence of his audience by replaying recently seen events. He then adds insult to injury with a few superfluous songs, especially one Punjabi wedding song and another ballad.
Having stated the flaws of this heist film let’s move on to the plusses.
Special Chhabis is based on true events primarily a 1987 robbery at a Mumbai jewellery store by a group of men posing as government officials. Kumar is the mastermind. His teammates are Anupam Kher, Kishore Kadam and Rajesh Sharma. On the other hand is the upright CBI officer, Manoj Bajpayee. Bajpayee and Kher are electric on screen. Jimmy Sheirgill plays his part with respectable control. Akshay Kumar is stoic and furtive. But the love story between him and Kajal Agarwal is lame, at best.
Pandey gets some of the 80s detailing delectably right, eg the value of Rs 100, the desire for imported goods available only in Bombay, the Maruti 800 cars, the bus-stop advertising Thrill (the cola). There’s a great line when Bajpayee asks his boss if his raise and promotion are confirmed or should he start taking bribes. High on humour but a little low on suspense or the excitement of execution of a heist, my biggest issue was why Kumar and team needed to scapegoat the CBI to pull off their big theft. If the screenplay had lost the love story and songs, one may not have had the time to apply logic and liked the film more.
MUMBAI: It was a bright and sunny morning, when the team of Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Special 26’ decided to head out to promote their film in Mumbai. The action star Akshay Kumar was joined by his pretty co-star Kajal Aggarwal, at the meet and greet organised to promote the film.
The assembled media persons were treated to a very jovial Akshay and his banter on all things special about ‘Special 26’. The hero was at his heroic best, when he tried to describe what the film was about, without revealing too much about the plot. Clad in a crisp white shirt and black trousers, the muscle man Akshay was certainly in his element at the press con.
His co-star Kajal Aggarwal, of ‘Singham’ fame, was quick to add her two cents about the film and her experience of working with the ‘Khiladi’ Kumar, after starring opposite Ajay ‘Lion’ Devgn. Kajal looked suitably pretty in a mustard coloured tee with a white lace waistcoat on top.
Akshay did his best to sum up the plot of the film, which is directed by Neeraj Pandey of ‘A Wednesday’ fame. He said: “Back in the olden days, people used to have lots of black money, which they would stash away under mattresses, in their roofs, or in some secret place in their house. And then when the I.T Department came knocking with a full-fledged raid, they couldn’t complain to anyone since this money was illegal anyway. So there were a lot of cases of fake CID raids and fake Income Tax raids on such people. ‘Special 26’ is about one such incident, where a jewelry store is raided by fake I.T. sleuths, who run away with all that money and jewelry. It is based on a real life incident.
With such an interesting plot line, we’re sure the film will draw in curious audiences by the thousands. Akshay Kumar would sure be happy when that happens!
MUMBAI: For ‘Special Chabbis’, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar sung a romantic composition, ‘Mujh Mein Tu’. Actor-Producer-Singer Akshay Kumar, dedicated this song to his gorgeous wife Twinkle Khanna on their wedding anniversary on 17 January.
He tweeted, “Hey guys, Sharing with you’ll today a special, romantic song MujhMeinTu from#Special26 dedicated to my beautiful wife on our anniversary today sung by yours truly 🙂 Eager to know what you’ll think…”
The song flows with a beautiful melody and the lyrics strike a chord with you. The part where Akshay voices out, ‘Tujhi se mujhe sab ataa’ simply makes us go “awww”. Never mind that Akshay’s voice is autotuned, the heartfelt emotions with which the actor has sung his debut song is out there for all to see, making it very special for both his wife and Akshay Kumar fans.
In the film, ‘Mujh Mein Tu’ has been sung by Keerthi Sagathia. Director Neeraj Pandey feels that the version sung by the ‘Khiladi’ will be a hit among his fans and can be used for promoting the film.
“He (Akshay Kumar) heard the original song and loved it so much that he started humming while we were shooting it. That’s when we decided to get him to sing a mellow version of the same song and use it as a promotional video,” says Pandey.
It was tough for Neeraj to convince Akshay to sing the song. Akshay even rehearsed for five months before recording it. Neeraj adds, “He’s not a singer, yet the song has turned out well. It was a little tough to convince Akshay to sing it. But he rehearsed for five months before he recorded it. He was dedicated and I am sure Akshay will surprise everyone with his rendition.”
The music of ‘Mujh Mein Tu’ has been composed by M M Kreem. The lyrics have been written by Irshad Kamil. Watch it here!

“She (Kajal) is beautiful, talented and professional. She has learnt so much from down south. She fitted the character very well. The bonding was very good with her. I enjoyed working with her.
