MUMBAI: Sonam Kapoor has been told to lay off her designer gowns. The two film old actress who has a penchant for dressing up in international known designers’ outfits, will have to give it a miss and get down to basics of tees and denims, and all this for Karan Johar’s new film I Hate Love Stories.
Directed by Puneet Malhotra for Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the film has Imran Khan and Kapoor in the lead. A production aide of the banner said, “While Imran has a boyish image, Sonam has an international designer gown wali image. While it may have worked for her to get plush endorsement campaigns with international brands, she comes across too hip for the Indian masses. So Karan has asked her to lock away all the designer gowns and start appearing in public in casual jeans and t-shirts.”
Johar’s style of designing can be seen in Shah Rukh Khan’s films. The checkered half sleeve sweaters and bell bottoms that SRK wore in Farah Khan’s Main Hoon Na were designed by Johar. And although the film will start shooting from the 16th of October, the team at Dharma have already put on their production thinking caps for I Hate Love Stories.
Kapoor, who is a fashionista and loves clothes is an avid internet shopper. The Saawariya leading lady says, “I love online shopping. I check out the latest clothes on the internet and then I order it. When my dad came last month from Los Angeles, I asked him to pick out an outfit that I had ordered. Most of my money is spent on clothes. I think I can buy clothes everyday. Infact I lost my weight when Sanjay Leela Bhansali told me that I had to wear backless cholis in Saawariya. Anything for clothes.”
Kapoor is so keen on shopping that she has even volunteered to go with Manish Malhotra, the clothes designer of I Hate Love Stories to shop for her wardrobe in the film. But this shopping will be mostly casual clothes and we are sure Kapoor does not like it that way.
