[imagebrowser id=249] MUMBAI: On a cool winter’s morning in the glamorous city of Mumbai, several Bollywood stars gathered including Karisma Kapoor for a good cause. The cause in question, being ‘Pinkathon 2012- Run to Lead’: A special 10km woman’s run to spread breast cancer awareness.
This was the first ever marathon run arranged under Pinkathon, which saw participation from women from all walks of life. Bollywood divas were spotted running alongside regular women, housewives and mother, in support of the Women’s Cancer Initiative and Tata Memorial Hospital.
More than 1500 women registered and pledged to raise funds for breast cancer patients. The initiative has been actively promoted by Maximus Events, Milind Soman and Reema Sanghavi for a while now. Their collective vision turned to fruition on Sunday, December 16th when the race flagged off at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai.
‘Pinkathon 2012’ in its first edition was flagged off by the uber stylish Bollywood diva and style icon Karisma Kapoor, looking pretty and chic in a pink full-sleeved tee and a pair of tracks, with a black sleeveless vest and a pair of sunglasses.
Karisma Kapoor was spotted with Milind Soman: that handsome hunk of a man, in grey sweats. Bollywood actress Tara Sharma and Radio personality RJ Mallishka (who is Pinkathon’s mascot) were spotted running the marathon.
We also caught a glimpse of Minister for Women & Children’s Welfare, Varsha Gaikwad, and several famous faces from Bollywood industry like MTV VJ Anusha Dandekar and model & actress Lisa Haydon; who had pledged to be a part of the run.
Apart from the usual sprinkling of Mumbai’s well-known women, we also witnessed 650 members from Brahma Kumaris – World Spiritual University, 50 female cops from the Mumbai Police and several corporate bigwigs, running to support the cause. We sincerely hope this noble initiative grows from strength to strength in the coming years.
