MUMBAI: With the water scarcity situation in Maharashtra only going from bad to worse, Bollywood has come up with a unique solution to save water: a waterless holi!
An industry which has portrayed the festival of holi on screen, with stars dousing each other in colour, and then washing it off with giant rain-dance styled parties, while indulging their playful childlike side, is now advocating a waterless holi.
Superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Deshmukh, Raveena Tandon, Saif Ali Khan and many others have pledged to have a dry holi this year.
Tweeted the Shehenshah of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan: “T 1052 – Water shortage in Maharashtra … and its only March. What will happen in Summer ? Save water ! Play a dry Holi !!”
Ritesh Deshmukh was soon to follow suit, with a tweet which read: “Glad to see so many colleagues in DNA afterhours supporting #DryHoli -this holi we can be sensible n sensitive#IPledgeMySupport #SaveWater”
Lata Mangeshkar said, “Maharashtra is facing worst droughts and Holi can be played with only colors”. She also adds that we should conserve the water before it becomes scarce.
Sonakshi Sinha stated that “I would urge people to enjoy the dry holi keeping in mind the recent drought affected areas in state”.
Controversy’s queen Poonam Pandey too was seen advocating a waterless holi, at an awareness event in the city recently. (SEE PHOTOS HERE)
Erstwhile Nawab of Pataudi Saif Ali Khan is an active advocate of water and energy conservation, and he has said that one should become more civilized and understand their responsibilities.
Raveena Tandon and Ajay Devgn have pledged to play holi only with gulal this year.
Other stars like Asin, Tusshar Kapoor, Sakshi Tanwar, Juhi Chawla and Suniel Shetty have also pledged a waterless holi this year.
