FreeSpirit to manage Nelly Futardo, JOSH in India

MUMBAI: FreeSpirit Entertainment has signed up with Canadian pop band JOSH to manage its career and interests in India.


JOSH, which has released three albums in India, has been making waves with its current album Mausam ranking among the top 10 on BBC Asian Radio as well as in India and Pakistan.


The band’s remix of the Nelly Futardo song Powerless some years ago had become an instant hit, prompting Nelly to ask them to remix another song Maneater from the latest album Loose, and then another, Promiscuous Girl. Nelly’s management Chris Smith Management along with Awesome Music, has signed JOSH on to look after their career globally, claims an official release.


FreeSpirit Entertainment, whose repertoire focuses on the genres of ‘World’, ‘World beat’, ‘Traditional’ and ‘Lounge’, has an artiste roster comprising Taufiq Qureshi, Alms for Shanti, Mynta, Ricky Kej and Chakra:VU. The repertoire includes artistes like Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pandit Rajan-Sajan Mishra, Rahul Sharma, Rakesh Chaurasia, Pritam, Abhijit Pohankar and Kailash Kher.


FreeSpirit will look after JOSH’s interests in India and also work with Chris Smith Management in getting the right deals for Nelly Futardo in the Indian market and Bollywood. This includes live shows, collaboration with Indian artistes and singing or doing music for Bollywood.


FreeSpirit MD Rajeev Sharma says, “We have already chalked out some plans. We are working on a tour for JoSH and a song to go with the ‘Cricket World Cup 2007’, plus work in Bollywood. With Nelly, there has been great interest from Bollywood and we are currently working on some offers for doing a song for a Bollywood movie. Nelly is keen on acting in a Bollywood movie too, if the role is right.”
