NBC Universal Global Networks expands into Romania

Mumbai: NBC Universal Global Networks has announced the launch of two of its most successful channel brands in Romania. The localised versions of SCI FI and Universal Channel will debut on TV platform AKTA (formerly called MAX TV), offering viewers science fiction and entertainment programming, including award-winning series and blockbuster movies from a range of distributors including NBC Universal, CBS Paramount, 20th Century Fox and others.

"We’re thrilled to be establishing SCI FI and Universal Channel in a market as significant as Romania," said NBC Universal Global Networks & Digital Initiatives president Roma Khanna. "These strategic launches underscore the expansion plans of NBC Universal Global Networks and the global appeal and popularity of our brands."

The addition of Universal Channel and SCI FI to the existing Hallmark Channel, Movies 24 and KidsCo brands makes Romania only the second country in Europe to offer such a comprehensive range of channels from the NBC Universal Global Network portfolio.

NBC Universal Global Networks managing director (CEE) Colin McLeod said, "The launch of Universal Channel and SCI FI forms part of a comprehensive growth strategy for Romania, which has long been the most successful CEE country for the Hallmark Channel. SCI FI and Universal Channel feature distinctive series and movies which will quickly establish them as firm favorites with Romanian cable and satellite subscribers."
