Mumbai: Producer – director Sanjay Gupta who has to his credit films like Kaante, Dus Kahaniyaan amongst others, is all set to produce a film based on Kolkata’s red light district Sonagachi.
Incidentally the film is also titled Sonaganchi and will be produced under the White Feather Arthouse banner. Sonaganchi will be directed by Shudipto Chattapodhya, who has also directed Pankh for White Feather Films banner.
Sonaganchi in Kolkata is home to over 10,000 sex workers and has scores of multi-storey brothels that are in operation. With films like Chameli and Chandini Bar made in the recent past, it is a matter of waiting to see with what freshness the concept is treated. While the preproduction is on, the cast is yet to be decided.
