This week, two diverse Bollywood films hit the marquee, and surprisingly action film Singh Saab The Great overtook rom com Gori Tere Pyaar Mein at the ticketing windows.
Directed by Anil Sharma and starring action hero Sunny Deol, Singh Saab The Great outperformed Gori Tere Pyaar Mein by a big margin. Though both can be said to have performed averagely, in comparison, Singh Saab The Great pulled in more audiences than Gori Tere Pyaar Mein.
On Day 1 (Friday), Singh Saab The Great raked in approximately Rs 48 million (Rs 4.8 crore) net. Day 2 and Day 3 figures were in the range of Rs 42.7 million (Rs 4.27 crore) and Rs 52.6 million (Rs 5.26 crore) net. This brings the three day total up to Rs 143.3 million (Rs 14.33 crore) net.
In comparison, Punit Malhotra’s Gori Tere Pyaar Mein starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Imran Khan, didn’t do as well. It can be termed a box office disaster, as the much-hyped romantic comedy only managed to do a business of Rs 25.5 million (Rs 2.55 crore) net on Day 1, Rs 30.2 million (Rs 3.02 crore) net on Day 2 and Rs 32.7 million (Rs 3.27 crore) net on Sunday, Day 3. The three day total for GTPM is Rs 88.4 million (Rs 8.84 crore) net.
It remains to be seen whether Gori Tere Pyaar Mein can pick up the pace, and win back viewers from Singh Saab The Great.
