MUMBAI: Very recently, Priti Shahani was appointed as CEO of Times, which brings speculation to the fore that Times Group is once again gearing up for a second innings in the film space.
Shahani comes with a pedigree in the cinema and movie distribution space, having previously worked with Sahara One Motion Pictures, Studio 18 and Hungama.com
Times Group’s movie arm- Mirchi Movies has been seeing a slump in business in recent years. With the maiden venture ‘Being Cyrus’, directed by Homi Adajania (of ‘Cocktail’ fame), the group has barely had any noteworthy Bollywood films to their credit. Mirchi Movies also produced the forgettable ‘Hari Puttar’ and ‘Aloo Chaat’.
The company has also been investing in regional cinema, tasting success with their debut Tamil feature film ‘Vellitherai’ in 2008. But with a seasoned film person joining the ranks of the group, speculation is now rife that Times Group and Mirchi Movies is now attempting a comeback in films.
