Old Is Gold, well that’s exactly what Sholay 3D has proved at the Box Office as it has out beaten the collections of Arshad Warsi and Soha Ali Khan starrer Mr Jo B. Carvalho. While Mr Jo B. Carvalho has fallen flat at the Box-Office, with practically no or dull response, Sholay 3D has managed to fare far better.

August 15, 1975, about thirty eight years ago, Sholay first hit the screens and was pegged as the greatest story ever told. The 3D version, made on a budget of about Rs 170 million (Rs 17 crore) nett, has garnered a decent response. Sascha Sippy, who is the grandson of GP Sippy, is the producer of Sholay 3D version.

However, Sholay 3D has been in the news for all the wrong reasons as Ramesh Sippy, the man who directed the original version had moved to the Supreme Court to get a stay on the release of the 3D version over a copyright dispute. Ramesh Sippy had asserted his ownership on the copyright of the movie and said that his nephews Shaan and Shasha, and others were guilty of infringement of his copyright by trying to make a 3D version of Sholay.

He had challenged a gift deed of September 2000, where Sippy Films gifted all rights in Sholay to Shaan and Sascha’s company, which in turn gave exclusive 3D and 2D theatrical rights of the film to producer Jayantilal Gada and his company but then all ended on a good note and the film got released as planned. In its first week the film will manage to collect about 42.5 million (4.25 crore) nett, though reports are still awaited.

Coming to Mr Jo B. Carvalho, the first original release of 2014, going by the initial word of mouth as well as the collections, it seems that the film could be a total wash out at the Box Office. It opened to a dull response and has shown no improvement in the following days as well it has failed to entertain both the critics and the audience. Looks like in its first week the film will barely manage to collect about 17.5 million (1.75 crore) nett.

On the other hand Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 is going great guns and now all eyes are set on Salman Khan’s Jai Ho that hits the silver screen on January 24, 2014.
