Fox Star India And Dharma Productions Ink 9 Films Deal

dharma-foxProduction houses Fox Star India and Dharma Productions have joined hands for a deal of total 9 films spread over the span of three years. The two production houses will venture together for the production as well as distribution of all the nine films estimated to be worth around rupees 500 crores. Karan Johar‘s Dharma Productions have been frontrunners producing some of the finest films of Bollywood industry and with Fox Star India backing them up the upcoming films can be expected to change the phase of Indian cinema.

Fox Star India which is a joint collaboration between 21st Century Fox and Star India have previously worked with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions for his film My Name Is Khan released in 2010. The nine film deal will see directors Karan Johar, Ayan Mukherjee, Karan Malhotra and Abhishek Verman amongst others working on their individual projects with high profile actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Shahid Kapoor and Anushka Sharma amongst others.

Star India CEO Uday Shankar stated, “The Indian film industry is an important market for us and this strategic partnership offers us an excellent opportunity to fundamentally change the content quality paradigm. This venture is the natural step in our progression to create entertaining and eclectic content for a global audience and to grow the business through game-changing innovation in content, marketing and distribution.”

Filmmaker Karan Johar who made his acting debut in the recently released film Bombay Velvet stated, “This partnership will not only be the coming together of two forces who understand the need of the cinematic hour but also work as a unit to increase the footfall strength at the movies and empower other verticals.” He further went on to talk about this step taken by his production house, “Unlike what people believe, collaborations don’t dilute brands, in fact this is a profile and power deal, which we hope will bring back the falling footfalls to cinema halls.”
According to surveys and statistics the performance given by Indian film industry has been dipping down compared to previous years. The step taken by Fox Star India and Dharma Productions will look into making good quality films that will fare well at the box office too. Dharma Productions is currently pushing S.S. Rajamouli’s Baahubali which is said to be India’s biggest motion picture.
