Actor Anton Yelchin is best known for his role as Chekov in the ‘Star Trek’ series where his performance left an impression on audiences across the globe. On Sunday, the 27 year old actor of Russian origin passed away after being involved in a freak car accident.

According to reports, the actor’s publicist has confirmed the news of the actor’s passing away and has requested that the media to be respectful of the family’s wish to be allowed to mourn in private. The actor who was supposed to be on his way to meet friends was found hours later by them stuck between a brick mailbox that was attached to a security gate and his own car. The actor’s friends decided to visit his San Francisco house after repeatedly having their calls unanswered by Anton.

According to law enforcement officials present at the site, when the actor’s corpse was discovered, his engine was left running and his car was in neutral gear. The police do not suspect foul play at the moment but the investigation will look into any possibility of sabotage.

The actor who shot to fame with his role in the ‘Star Trek’ series started his career in films with very small roles but eventually went to work in big banner films like ‘Terminator Salvation’, ‘Aplha Dog’, ‘Broken Horses’ and ‘The Winter Queen’. 2016 has so far proved to be a very morbid year with many celebrities like Alan Rickman, Christina Grimmie and Prince passing away.

May Anton’s soul rest in peace.
